The Home Office is providing free Faith Security Training (FST) to enhance security knowledge and practices within places of worship and faith communities.

  • Additional support to protect places of worship and faith communities in England and Wales

  • Training will raise awareness amongst faith communities of how to improve their security and mitigate threats, helping faith communities to remain safe and secure

  • Funding forms part of government’s Plan for Change to create safer streets

Following a successful FST pilot in 2024, which was designed and delivered in consultation with security and faith experts, a full rollout commenced today, 17th February 2026.

The initiative will raise awareness amongst faith communities on how to improve their safety and security and help them prepare to mitigate threats. FST is intended to upskill those with security responsibilities at their place of worship, such as faith leaders, trustees, facilities management, and community volunteers. It also includes awareness training for members of the congregation to help everyone play a role in keeping places of worship safe.

CDS Support have been selected to deliver the training following a competitive and robust tendering process. The training provider has a strong track record in protective security and delivering training at scale. Current projects include a coaching programme for British Army Chaplains, and a graduate-level Defence Cultural Advisors Course.

CDS Support is hosting in-person training sessions across England and Wales, as well as virtual events and e-learning. Both multi-faith and faith-specific sessions are available.

Training covers:

  • Understanding threats to security

  • Pre-incident actions and incident response security measures

  • Risk scenarios

  • Security governance

This training complements existing Home Office measures to protect faith communities across the country, such as protective security for places of worship schemes.

CDS Support Managing Director Richard Bradley said:

“In recent years the safety of faith communities has felt threatened, and the CDS Support team stand ready to help faith groups strengthen their resilience through this training programme. We’re delivering in-person, online and via e-learning to reach as many people as possible.”
